Management against the risks of Legionella is an important task for all employers, care providers or landlords. Legionella is almost impossible to see but often fatal so not an area in which to make mistakes or be lacking in compliance.

Employers have a duty of care under the health and safety at work act to protect their employees and anyone visiting their site or work place. They then have responsibility to make sure that their water systems are controlled from legionella.

The two main pieces of legislation are the Health and Safety at Work Act (1974) and the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulation (1994).

In areas such as Healthcare, Hospitals and Care Homes (or similar sites where users could be even more vulnerable) it is imperative that compliance is observed, recorded and met. Generally this is done using manual processes and with varied degrees of success.
